Dr Peter Gifford is an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who has undertaken additional sub-speciality training internationally in the UK, in lower-limb conditions, such as sports injury, joint reconstruction, acute trauma, and hip and knee replacement surgery.
Biography
Dr Peter Gifford completed an undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy (BSc PT) before moving to Queensland to obtain his medical degree (MBBS) at the University of Queensland.
After being accepted into the orthopaedic training programme and completing his registrar training, Peter was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He then travelled to London to pursue additional sub-specialised training by completing dedicated fellowships under internationally recognised leaders in his key areas of interest; sports injury and joint reconstruction. Fellowships undertaken included Sports Knee at both Chelsea Westminster and Cromwell Hospitals, followed by further specialisation in hip and knee arthroplasty at the University College London Hospital.
Dr Gifford holds the position of Deputy Director at Princess Alexandra Public Hospital and sees patients privately at Greenslopes and Mater Private Hospitals. He is passionate about teaching and training junior doctors. Dr Gifford has contributed published research to both peer reviewed journals and textbooks and continues to pursue evidence-based practice through ongoing research projects.

Being trained as both a physiotherapist and an orthopaedic surgeon provides Dr Gifford with a unique, comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, function and importantly, recovery and rehabilitation from surgery.

Acute knee injury clinic – sports and workplace, cartilage and ligament injuries.
Direct anterior hip replacement surgery – minimally invasive technique with less pain and shorter hospital stays using computer navigation.
Robotic knee surgery – aims to provide greater implant precision.
